Review

Dear reader this post is going to be about the review of the book 2004 Information Society Report to the Parliament of Finland by Pekka Himanen.

The global division of labor:

Routine productions already started moving to different parts of the world where it is much cheaper. In the more developed countries and in most parts of the world finding good reliable Workman is almost impossible. In my home country Hungary finding someone to fix the pipes, gas or anything like that is very hard and getting an appointment is even harder. In almost every industry to be employed the individual needs not only a diploma but work experience.

Increasing international tax competition:

Countries try to make ideal circumstances for skilled workforce and to make companies invest there. One of the tactics here is decreasing tax or to make exceptions for those they need. This tactic will lure in the intended audience and make profit for the country.

Values of the reform of the European model:

                Caring:

It means that the society cares for its members and tries to create equal opportunities for everyone.

                Community:

This value means that the society is open to everyone and tries its best to include everyone as much as possible.

                Courage:

It is a value that is needed to recognize other values.

                Balance:

It is a meta value. It refers to the balance between other values and between everyone in the society.

As we can see there are a lot of definitions of what a perfect society should look like and how it should be built. Obviously, it is impossible to achieve completely but some of the points and predictions mentioned in the book already become true and there are some which are in the formation. It is interesting to see how people predicted the future to be and to follow the accuracy of the events.

Everyone who reads the book will have their own ideas about it and their own understanding of the statements and predictions so it’s definitely worth a try.

Thank you for reading!

Best regards,

Balint Adam
